SOCIAL ACTIVITIES, INDIVIDUAL CONDUCT AND DRESS


An individual’s social activities, conduct and dress should be a personal matter, however, maintaining a positive learning environment requires a certain level of professionalism and decorum at all times throughout the school day. Each employee should have freedom to express their individuality so long as they do not intrude upon and/or endanger the freedom of others.

Last week, patrol officers were being required to sign off on a directive that held them responsible for any damage done to the car and required them to do an extensive check of the vehicle including everything from fan belts to tire inflation.After I brought it to the attention of the lawyers, the directive and checklist is being reviewed and redone. If you are injured at work, it is important that you complete the district's Employee Report of Incident form and submit it before the end of your work day. If your injury is such that you are unable to complete the report, your administrator or supervisor must do so by the end of the day.The district will designate medical providers to be used in the administration of workers' compensation claims and treatment.

Classified employees are to receive two 15 minute breaks and a 30 minute duty-free lunch break, and it is actually against district policy for classified employees to not take their breaks.Do not let the demands of the day keep you from taking your break.

Employees are allowed up to two (2) hours per semester without loss of pay or use of a benefit day to attend parent-teacher conferences for biological children or children in the employee's custody or control, under the following conditions. 1) This time can be taken when District teachers have Parent-Teacher Conferences scheduled for their students. 2) The time for meeting with a teacher or attending a parent-teacher conference is approved, in writing, at least five (5) days in advance by the Building Administrator. 3) The employee provides a written statement to the Building

The Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) entitles KCPS employees to take unpaid, job-protected leave for specified family and medical reasons with continuation of group health insurance coverage under the same terms and conditions as if the employee had not taken leave. This leave can be for an extended period of time or intermittently. There are specific guidelines, but if you qualify and need an FMLA leave, you should contact Marilyn Overton at moverton@kcpublicschools.org.

KCPS follows the Center for Disease Control's recommendations for students with head lice:

Students diagnosed with live head lice do not need to be sent home early from school; they can go home at the end of the day, be treated, and return to class after appropriate treatment has begun.

 

Parent(s) should be notified, but students should not be excluded from school or from bus transportation.

Everyone is late to work occasionally, but don't make it a habit. Even if you are only a few minutes late, any pattern of tardiness can result in disciplinary measures by administration.

And if you are late, make sure you record accurately the time you arrive. Inaccurately timing in can result in immediate disciplinary consequences.
